FILIPINO RESTAURANT MONTH IN CANADA OFFICIALLY RETURNS FOR ITS SECOND YEAR

Calgary, AB – The Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) and the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary are pleased to announce the return of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) following last year’s tremendous success. This project will once again be executed by the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulates General (PCG) in Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. Throughout the entire month of April 2023, the participating restaurants will feature prix fixe menus that highlight the unique variety of Filipino food and ingredients, and the talent of Filipino chefs throughout Canada.

“Year 2 of the FRMC promises to be bigger and better as it will build on the success of our inaugural run last year. We encourage the 957,000-strong Filipino community across Canada to become our ambassadors of goodwill and join us in promoting and mainstreaming the Filipino cuisine in this country,” said Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron

During the first-ever FRMC in 2022, 40 restaurants across 7 Canadian provinces and 18 cities participated in the month-long event, resulting in over 1,000 orders of prix fixe meals. As the FRMC continues to grow, we hope to include more restaurants in efforts to showcase and highlight the evolving Filipino community and culinary industry. While the list of participating restaurants has not been finalized yet, Canadians are encouraged to visit and constantly check the FRMC Facebook page for more information and updates.

Similar to last year, a hybrid Press Conference will be held at the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary on March 20, 2023 to launch the annual event and officially announce the participating restaurants. This will also provide local partners and media an opportunity to connect with the Filipino community in Calgary, taste the dishes, host interviews, and more. In attendance will be representatives from the PDOT, Philippine Foreign Posts in Canada, and participating restaurants. For media personnel who are interested in virtually attending, a link will be released closer to the date of the Press Conference.

“We hope to continue to inspire and spark the interest of the Canadian market in visiting the Philippines through tasting our food. The richness of our cuisine reflects the over 7,000 islands we have that are filled with endless fun and adventure,” said the Tourism Attaché of the Philippine Department of Tourism in San Francisco, Soleil Tropicales

With the partnership and support of generous Philippine-based sponsors, customers of the FRMC will once again have an opportunity to win local and national prizes. The prizes may include trip accommodations, dining vouchers to participating restaurants, and more. More information and further instructions will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Philippines is excited and ready to warmly welcome fully vaccinated foreign travellers from visa-free countries to enjoy their culinary scene, unique adventures, cultural experiences, and their 7,641 islands.
